APH Department of Field Services: Janie Blome
Director, Field Services
Phone: 502/899-2367
Janie has been at APH since August 2000. She came to APH as a Field Services Representative, working as a liaison between APH and professionals in the field. Her responsibilities included developing partnerships with the university personnel preparation programs, and the development of the National Instructional Partnerships, a project designed to provide training based around curriculum areas and the use of APH products in those areas.
She is currently the Director of the Field Services department at the Printing House. The department administers the Federal Quota, registers students for the Federal Quota census, works with the Trustees who administer the Federal Quota accounts in each state, and provides trainings and exhibits in the field.
Before coming to APH, Janie spent 18 years at the Arkansas School for the Blind, most of those as a preschool consultant in the outreach department, working with young children with visual impairment and their families and teachers. While at ASB she also taught the preschool classroom, taught first grade, and taught language arts, art and fourth graders during summer program. She also spent two additional summers as recreation director for the summer program. Janie has been active in AER, served two terms on the International Board of Directors, held nearly every office there was to hold in the Arkansas chapter (except treasurer), and is currently the chair of the international professional development/continuing education committee for AER. She is also the very proud recipient of the J. Max Woolly award given by the AR chapter in honor of the outstanding former superintendent of the Arkansas School for the Blind. She is a co-founder (along with Cay Holbrook) of the "Getting In Touch With Literacy Conference" and, with Cay, was awarded the first Holbrook-Humphries Literacy Award at the 1999 conference in San Francisco.
