APH Prison Braille Forum

In conjunction with the APH 2007 Annual Meeting, October 11-13

Primary topic of discussion:

A report from the National Prison Braille Focus Group held at APH in July, 2007, and review of the educational materials the group drafted.

In late July, 2007, eight professionals from across the country working with prison braille programs gathered in Louisville for a two-day workshop. Working with the APH Prison Braille Advisory Committee, their charge was to begin developing educational materials to support the establishment and successful operation of these programs, and to guide qualified transcribers as they transition from prison back into society.

At the Prison Braille Forum in October, we will review and discuss the draft materials that this group developed, and incorporate your ideas and experience before these documents are finalized and released to the public. We will also hear updates from our colleagues around the country about the prison braille programs they manage. The focus this year will be on areas of success since our last annual gathering, and areas in which help is needed.
