8th Annual APH Prison Braille Forum

Being held in conjunction with the APH 2008 Annual Meeting, October 2-4

Preliminary Program

Prison Braille Program Guidelines
Since our Prison Braille Forum last October, guidelines for establishing and operating a prison braille program and for preparing offenders for reentry as braille transcribers have been developed. A copy of these materials will be sent to each Forum participant prior to the meeting. Our goal is to gather your final input on these documents and prepare them for publication by the end of 2008.

Individual Program Updates
An important part of this annual gathering is learning from the experience of others. We will ask that a spokesperson be selected for each prison braille program represented at the Forum, and that he/she give a brief (2-3 minute) update on the status of the program (challenges, accomplishments...).

National Prison Braille Network Goals for 2009
Goals for the coming year will be drafted during the Forum and reviewed by the group.

*** Tour of KCI Braille Services ***

APH has requested that Forum guests be allowed to visit the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women (KCIW) and tour KCI Braille Services, a program managed by APH. If the visit is approved, the group will leave The Seelbach on Thursday, October 2 at 1:00 p.m. and return to the hotel by 4:00 p.m. Transportation will be provided. If you have not visited this prison braille program before and would like to, please indicate your interest on the Forum registration form. We will contact you with more information once the tour is confirmed.
