Being held in conjunction with the APH 2009 Annual Meeting, October 15-17

APH will host a day-long Prison Braille Forum!
- WHEN: Wednesday, October 14, 2009
8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Informal Discussion and Networking
Suggested topics for discussion include:- The impact of budget cuts on prison braille programs
- Dealing with the uncertainties of the prison environment
- Administering and proctoring certification exams
- Motivating transcribers to work as a team
- Mentoring strategies in the prison setting
11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m - Lunch break, on your own
1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. National Prison Braille Network Meeting
Agenda items this year include:- Reports from morning discussion sessions
- Building Bridges with Braille initiative
- Individual program updates.
Continuing our tradition, participants will be asked to provide a 2-minute program update on each prison braille program. - Participants at this meeting will also receive copies of:
- Guidelines for Starting and Operating Prison Braille Programs
- Prison Braille Directory 2009

*** Tour of KCI Braille Services ***
KCI Braille Services is a braille program in the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women. It is managed by Kentucky Correctional Industries and the American Printing House for the Blind. Forum participants who have not yet visited this prison braille program are invited to tour the facility on Thursday, October 15th. A van will pick you up at the Seelbach at 8:30 a.m. and return you to the hotel at 11:00 a.m. Please be sure to sign up on the registration form if you are interested.
There is no charge to participate in the Prison Braille Forum or the KCI Braille Services tour, but pre-registration is required and must be received at APH by September 18.
