      Revolutionary Portable Reading Device

      Leader: Larry Skutchan, Research Scientist, Technology Project Leader, APH

      This session presents a new device, Book Port, designed to provide a portable means of reading books electronically. Participants will provide feedback about proposed features and functions and will suggest other uses and features they wish to see in such a device.

      Looking Into Low Vision

      Leader: Elaine Kitchel, Research Scientist, Low Vision Project Leader, APH

      Participants will be asked to review and generate ideas for science activities for high school students who may use optical devices. Group members will also be asked to participate in reviewing and generating ideas for computer games for students with low vision.

      Braille Buffet

      Leader: Eleanor Pester, Research Scientist, Braille Project Leader, APH

      If braille suits your appetite, this session should have something tasty for you. We will be discussing production specifications for uncontracted braille material for adults, evaluating new and old Quick Pick products, and brainstorming future needs and trends.

      Accessible Textbook Initiative and Collaboration (ATIC)

      Leader: Jane E. Thompson, APH

      In this session we will unveil the new ATIC Large Print Textbook. We will discuss the results of the University of Louisville's field research, APH's summer pilot, and the software that was developed to create this new and exciting accessible textbook.

      Multiple Disabilities, Physical Fitness

      Leader: Tristan Pierce, APH

      This session will take a look at two distinctly different types of products for students with multiple disabilities. Attendees will be able to participate in the creation and design of a new series of age appropriate, high interest, low vocabulary story books for visually impaired students with additional disabilities. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to provide feedback on using sports and recreational leisure activities in transition planning for students with visual impairments.

      If you are interested in Orientation & Mobility and independent living products for blind persons from 4 to 104, come to our Adult Life Field Input Group. Here you will learn about and give input on the development of products that deal with teaching and assessing functional (daily living) skills for children and adults; sound localization and orientation; and checkbook management.
