Braille+ 18 Wins By A Head

Larry Skutchan, Technology Project Leader, APH — This presentation describes the race to design the most advanced note taker ever developed. From the starting gate, the decision was made to utilize Android as the operating system that controls the rest of the software on the device. Reasons and implications of this decision are discussed, and the presentation also outlines the custom applications developed for the platform and describes the benefits of taking the custom software approach. In an exciting finish, the presenter shows some of the apps in action and describes what the future holds for this exciting new device.

IQ Testing: Trifecta Winners are Collaboration, Caution, and Icing on the Cake

Marnee Loftin, School Psychologist, TX School for the Blind and Visually Impaired; Debbie Willis, Director of Accessible Tests, APH — This session presents the guidelines and recommendations resulting from an APH work group of practitioners in the field charged with develop specific recommendations for "best practices in IQ testing." Copies of the position paper were provided to participants, and examples of tests now being utilized and select products that address some of the recommendations were reported during the presentation. Questions and concerns of the participants were addressed as time allowed.
