After writing four lines, open the slate and slide it down until the pegs fit into the next set of holes, and continue writing (up to 28 lines).
Write on both sides of the paper with interpoint braille. Two holes in the top plate allow you to create offset registration holes, so that when you turn the paper over and put it back in the slate, embossing on the back will not interfere with the braille that is already on the front.
This 9-line, 21-cell slate is made of durable plastic. When you fill one side of the paper, you can flip the paper over and start writing on the other side. Features pins on the corners to prevent your paper from shifting. Includes a Saddle-Shaped Stylus.
This thin stylus can be easily kept in the pocket of a notebook or binder and is flat to prevent rolling. It comes in two color-coded sizes.
Note: All slates include a stylus. See the previous page for example descriptions.

Mobility is traveling from one place to another. Products listed in this section are designed to augment safe effective travel, and are for persons who have received instruction in independent travel from an O&M specialist at a rehabilitation agency. They should NEVER be used by persons who have not acquired these skills.

Miniguide US is a tiny, hand-held electronic travel device that can enhance the effectiveness of a blind person's primary travel method. The Miniguide US uses ultrasound to detect objects, and gives tactual or auditory feedback by vibrating or chirping more rapidly as you approach an object. Ideal for use by deafblind persons.
When used with a cane or dog guide, the Miniguide US can help a blind person avoid obstacles and overhangs; locate landmarks; locate items such as mailboxes or trash cans; and find paths through crowds at ranges from 20 inches to 26 feet.
NOTE: Both the 'K' Sonar and Miniguide US should be used along with a sighted guide, dog guide, or cane because they do not detect drop-offs and do not provide sufficient information on their own to ensure safety.

It's a great day at APH as Heathcliff, APH Vice President Gary Mudd's hard working guide dog of twelve years "hands over his harness" to Denver, the young up-and-comer. Produced by Discovery Channel's Animal Planet ® Pet Stories series, this video is for anyone who would like to know more about guide dogs or would just like to meet Denver.
During this half-hour, see how Denver got his start, "made the cut" at guide dog school, and was matched with Gary. Be amazed at how hard the two of them have worked to become the team they are. There's not a dry eye in the house during the reunion scenes when Denver's puppy trainer returns to find such a confident and capable guide dog!
This beautiful full-color calendar features the artwork of visually impaired artists. Suitable for low vision or blind students and adults or anyone who enjoys unique artwork! Months, days, holidays, and moon phases appear in both braille and large print. This calendar can be used at a desk or hung on a wall and is ring bound to allow pages to be folded over easily.

Inside Back Cover:
The federal Act to Promote the Education of the Blind was enacted by Congress in 1879. This act is a means for providing accessible educational materials to eligible students who meet the definition of blindness. Federal funds are designated for the purchase of educational materials produced by the American Printing House for the Blind (APH). These funds are credited to Federal Quota accounts that are administered by APH and its Ex Officio Trustees throughout the country.
In order for students to be eligible for registration in the Federal Quota Program, they MUST meet the following requirements.
No--there is no chronological age limit for eligibility. An adult is defined as a student over school age as determined by respective state law. To be registered, adults must have a written educational plan and must be receiving a minimum of 20 hours per week of instruction in an educational program. Social and leisure programs do not qualify as instructional programs.
To learn more about the Federal Quota program, contact the APH Field Services Department at 1-800-223-1839, ext. 300. Our website, www.aph.org/advisory/index.html, has contact information for the Ex Officio Trustees in your state. These Trustees can help you determine if your program or those you serve qualify for Federal Quota funds.
Back Cover:
Are you a service provider with adult students who are blind or visually impaired? Your program may be able to receive Federal Quota Funds to purchase products from APH for your eligible students.
If your adult student receives 20 hours per week of educational instruction (not social and leisure programs), is working at less than college level, and has a written educational plan, he or she may be eligible for the Federal Quota program. Please see the inside back cover for additional eligibility requirements and contact information for Federal Quota inquiries. Service providers may wish to request APH's complete products catalog at catalogs@aph.org or 800-223-1839.
