Accessible Media Editor
Reporting to the Director of the Accessible Textbooks Department, this position is responsible for editing, adapting, conducting quality control review of textbooks and materials for students who are blind or visually impaired.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Edit and adapt textbooks in Braille to ensure educational integrity for students who are blind or visually impaired.
- Conducts the quality control review of textbooks submitted by external and internal transcribers to ensure compliance with bid specifications and/or NLS Certification and NBA Formats Certification requirements.
- Assists in the development of APH textbook editing standards.
- Attends professional development conferences, workshops, etc. in the field of blindness and visual impairment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Training & Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- NLS Certified as Literary Braille Transcriber with at least four years experience transcribing textbooks and materials for K-12 students.
- NBA Formats Certified or documented proof of course completion, with the understanding that NBA Formats certification must be obtained within one year from the date of hire.
- NLS Certified as Nemeth Transcriber or four years experience transcribing math and science notation, with the understanding that NLS certification must be obtained within one year of date NBA Formats certification.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of at least one Braille translation software and the ability to learn others required.
- Excellent grammatical and proofreading skills required, with ability to achieve a passing score on HR Department administered grammar test.
- Must have strong Microsoft Word skills, including excellent keyboarding, navigation and archiving skills; ability to type (keyboard) at 30 wpm required
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
- Telecommuters will be considered.
- Successful candidate will be eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses up to a maximum of $3,000, with appropriate documentation.
Compensation:
Pay Grade: 6
Minimum: $15.10
Midpoint: $18.64
Starting hourly rate negotiable based on education and experience.
