Model & Pattern Maker II
Reporting to the Technical Research Manager, this position is responsible for providing support in the development of educational aids prototypes.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Builds prototypes of educational aids products using a variety of materials (e.g., plastic, paper, metal, wood, etc.).
- Assists Project Leaders with the design of new educational products, from initial concept to final production.
- Investigates and identifies new materials, processes, and vendors for APH production purposes.
- Offers technical and maintenance support to the Production department when needed. Rebuilds, maintains, and repairs tooling and fixtures when they are damaged, worn, or need modification or adjustment.
- Works with Project Leaders, Technical Research, Production, and other areas to determine the best process for the production of new products and the redesign of current products. Builds tooling, jigs, and fixtures to be
used for in-house production.
- Participates in meetings with Research and Production staff on subjects related to the production of new products.
- Ensures that the prototypes developed for new products can be manufactured on a large-scale basis by the Production department. Assists in problem solving of production issues as needed.
Education, Training & Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Preference given to persons with additional training or work experience related to the development of prototypes.
- Model making skills involving the use of machine-operated and hand woodworking and metal working tools required.
- Ability to create original freehand drawings and sketches by computer or by hand to be used by graphic designers in final product designs is required.
- Ability to create technical drawings required. (Using computer programs preferred but will accept drafting.)
- Knowledge of rapid prototyping or demonstrated ability to learn rapid prototyping skills is required.
- Knowledge of mold-making and casting processes including fiberglass, preferred.

Compensation:
Pay Grade: 7
Minimum: $ 17.51
Midpoint: $ 21.73
