Self Portrait at Eighty-Eight

Acrylic on Masonite

Size in inches: 15.5 high by 15.5 wide
Artist: Colin Allen
Asking Price:$600.00

Description: The face of a man stares straight out from the canvas at the viewer. The painting is more expressionistic than realistic. The face and hair are painted in tones of gray, yellow, orange, lavender and black, with a few white brush strokes to accent the hair and beard. The area behind the head is various shades of purple, blue, green and black. The painting has a lot of depth, created by illusion and by adding built-up surfaces to the painting. The painter has applied contrasting colors around the outline of the head to make it stand out from the background. The eyes, nose and mouth are built up so that they stand away from the surface about an inch.
