Outward Balance

Pastel, Charcoal

Size in inches: 24 high by 6 wide

Description: Smudging of the charcoal and pastels gives this work a soft look, somewhat in contrast to the geometric shapes that make up the composition. The two most prominent shapes in the picture are a large rectangular solid in the lower half of the page. Above it, but not touching, an upside-down pyramid floats. Large and small spheres, other rectangles and a star are arranged around the two central shapes. All the geometric shapes are black and white and shades of gray. They are drawn so that they look three-dimensional. The background space in which they float is pale yellow, pink, green and blue. A thin line, shaded to add dimension, connects several shapes with each other, and divides the background into areas of color.
