Description: This picture is drawn in great detail using various shades of black, white, and gray. Four objects are seen on a table in the foreground: an apple; a candle, with burned out wick (only a bit of smoke rises up from the wick), a quill pen standing up in an inkwell and another pen lying flat on the table. Behind these objects, one sees a mirror that reflects the apple, the candle, and the quill in the inkwell. Beyond these images in the mirror, one sees a vase, a picture, and other items that must be on the other side of the room. The unusual thing about the reflection in the mirror is that the image of the candle is different from the 'real' candle. The flame of the candle on the table is extinguished, but the candle in the reflection in the mirror burns brightly, casting its light on the table and other objects in the room.
