Description: This complex painting was created as four separate square paintings that fit together into one large square. In the first square, on the upper left-hand corner, an artist sits in a chair, staring at a blank canvas, his brushes, and paints to the side. His hand is on his forehead. He looks as though he is trying to think of a subject to paint. In picture in the right corner, he is shown sitting in and easy chair, holding a beverage, watching television. His canvas is in the background, still untouched. In the third picture, in the lower left corner, he sits reading a book and listening to a radio. His canvas is still there, but no paint has been applied. In the final panel, we see the artist standing in front of the canvas with a pensive look on his face. We cannot tell that he has actually started painting, because the canvas is shown from the rear, but a few squeezed tubes of paint imply that he may have started, at last. Behind him, there are several finished paintings. The four pieces of the work are tied together by the color scheme that includes cool blues, lavenders, browns, and whites. There are also lines that run through each of the four small pictures that form a design when all are assembled together. The four small pictures were designed so that they could be hung several different ways for display.
