Path Ruler, 2006

Artist: Gisela-Heidi Strunck

Description: Meant to be displayed on a wall and nearly 36 inches high, this abstract sculpture is made of dozens of carefully fitted but separate pieces of smoothly turned wood and metal spheres, cylinders, and more imaginative shapes. Most wood pieces are shown in their natural colors-with dark mahogany contrasting with light pine. Some of the smaller spheres are painted gold for emphasis. Interspersed through the design, one sees several pastel colored fiber tassels which are allowed to dangle over the surface in stair-step fashion, adding softness to the harder lines of the wood and metal.
