APH Technology Training Program

APH sponsors an on-going Technology Training program as part of our commitment to promoting independence of blind and visually impaired persons.

The goals of the program are to teach students to use assistive technology to access APH on-line resources independently and to help students take full advantage of all the features in APH Technology products.

The program seeks to benefit students by providing hands-on experience with APH Web resources and products at their schools, rehabilitation centers and technology facilities. We also teach educators, counselors, administrators, and parents to use these same resources and products with and without the use of assistive technology.

Workshops include:

• Learning Internet skills while learning to find books in the Louis Database.
• Learning keyboard commands while browsing Fred's Head for daily living tips, products and useful Web sites.
• Practicing writing skills while sharing ideas and personal experiences with Brainwaves participants.
• Learning how to find qualified transcribers and other book producers in the AMP Database.
• Learning basic and advanced features of Technology products such as:
  • Book Port
  • Termite Torpedo
  • Talking Typer
  • Math Flash
  • Studio Recorder
    and more!
    
    

How can you schedule a workshop?

Fill out an application and submit it to APH. Once accepted, an APH Representative will design a workshop according to your group's needs, grade and size. On the date scheduled, an APH representative will come to your school or technology center to conduct the workshop. The training is available anywhere in the United States.

At the completion of the training program, students will be able to:

• Look up books about their favorite topic in Braille, large print, tape, or disc.
• Access information about Braille music.
• Efficiently use APH educational games and software.
• Search for daily living, O & M, and technology tips.
• Get info about the latest gadgets, sports, and recreational activities.
• Use their personal experience to help others.
  
  

Every student will have the option of searching and ordering a free t-shirt on-line through the Louis Database. Students will also receive a certificate for completing the program.
