About the Museum's Name
In 1999, the Museum of the American Printing House for the Blind in Louisville was renamed the Marie and Eugene Callahan Museum. Eugene Callahan (1912-2005) was a World War II veteran who served in the Coast Guard, Navy, and Marine Corps. After the war, he became a designer at the refrigerator division of General Electric's Appliance Park in Louisville. He retired in 1972. The Callahans had been married for over fifty years at the time of his wife's death in 1996. His gift in her memory was the largest donation ever received by the Printing House from a living donor.
