In 1968, the IBM Braille (Model D) Typewriter became the first powered Braille writing machine available for individual use. Its keyboard was almost identical to that of a standard typewriter. Grade 1 braille is typed in lowercase. Both lower and uppercase characters are used for grade 2. The contractions for Grade 2 occupy the uppercase positions. |
