Provenance/History SVEC a SPOL s.r.o. was a metal working firm formed in 1993 in the aftermath of the breakup of Czechoslovakia. Although specializing eventually in car parts and locks, the firm developed the Tatrapoint Standard(1991) which the company sold in twenty five different countries. This model, developed in 1999 in conjunction with designer R. Ceresna, featured simplicity and an innovative adjustable width keyboard designed to accommodate hands of all sizes. It received a Slovakian National Award for Design. Purchased by APH Dept. of Educational Research around 2006 as the company investigated the possibility of re-entering the braillewriter market. It was also considered briefly as a possible pass-through item.
