Description APH Cubarithm has red plastic frame with 16 cells vertically and horizontally for a total of 256. Yellow vinyl plastic cubes are placed in the squares of the frame. The cubes have raised braille dots forming the numerals 0-9 on five of the sides; original cardboard boxes are white with green text, "Cubarithm/1-0038/May be used as an arithmetic slate with plastic numbered pegs or Braille cubes. Or as a peg board with plain plastic pegs./Manufactured by/The American Printing House For the Blind".
Provenance/History APH introduced its own version of the cubarithm arithmetic frame in 1953. Correspondance on file suggests that the company had been developing a cubarithm model for many years and had discarded several prototype versions after consultation with the field. It discontinued the red vinyl model in 1972 but continued selling stock on hand until at least 1977.
