Description The kit includes items specially adapted with tactile markings for students who are blind: a 12-inch ruler, spring (dial) balance, pan balance, and two thermometers (Fahrenheit and Celsius). The kit also includes assorted gram weights, an overflow can, a catch can, 4 square blocks measuring 1 1/4 in. of different metals (aluminum, iron, brass and lead) with hooks, 4 square blocks measuring 1 1/4 in. of wood (balsa, cork, pine and oak), and 4 gravity specimens (1 in. cubes) of various metals (aluminum, iron, brass and lead). The kit is packed in a carrying case that has two removable shelves, a handle and detachable lid, and it weighs approximately 16 pounds. APH catalog no. 1-0364.
The pan balance, gram weights, and aluminum block are missing.
Provenance/History "The Science Measurements Kit was developed by the Instructional Materials Reference Center of the American Printing House for the Blind to provide equipment needed to illustrate and explain basic operations of measurement to blind students in elementary and junior high school science courses." --APH product booklet. Production of the kit began in 1970.
