Provenance/History The Floor Pedestal Globe was first produced at APH in 1954. The Panoramic Studios of Philadelphia worked with APH on the design. In the 1956 catalog the entry read as follows: "30" in diameter, overall height of 51"; hollow-plastic construction; painted in contrasting blue and yellow to highlight land and sea areas; with brown stippling for mountainous areas; raised latitude and longitude lines; sturdy metal base." The original model cost $225. APH had a new mold made for a 30" globe in 1974, but the product remained very similar in construction. The globe was still available in the 1980 catalog, although few were apparently being sold: production between 1975 and 1979 averaged 17 per year. By 1984, the floor model had been removed from the catalog.
