Description 2001.149.1a - portable spring-driven phonograph for playing 12-inch phonograph discs at 33 1/3 or 78 rpm. Phonograph has a hinged lid with silver metal clasps; turntable with brown felt covering; hinged metal container, approx. 1 1/2 in. (diameter), located at the left corner behind the turntable, holding 48 steel phonograph needles; an expanding pocket attached to the inside of the lid for storage of records and headphones; an outside covering of black leather-like material; and a black leather handle on the right side. "Talking Book Reproducer, Model S10, Serial No. 147, American Foundation for the Blind, N.Y." --metal label located behind turntable. 2001.149.1b - a set of headphones with a faded black, cloth-covered head band. "Chicago Tel. Supply Co., DX Special" on earpiece. 2001.149.1c - metal crank with wooden handle for winding the phonograph. Material covering the outside of the phonograph is unglued at the top and bottom front left corners.
