Summary The first of eight audio tapes in the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) radio series "Manpower." The tape includes on-the-job interviews with 5 blind individuals from different states. Contents in interview order: Charles See, Maryland State Senator; Don O. Nold, President of Lithocopy, Inc. (IL); Waverly Lucas, President of Superior Concrete Works (NC); Rush Perry, X-ray Technician (OH); and Chet Perkins, Editor (IN). Each interview is 4 minutes and 30 seconds in length. Includes a printed Manpower series flyer with a complete list of interviews. Flyer indicates that Gregor Ziemer, AFB Director of Public Education, conducted the interviews. Also includes a 2-page typewritten and signed form-letter on AFB letterhead dated September 30, 1960 from Ziemer to the "Program Director," with a list of available series.
Open-reel recording on magnetic tape is stored in original metal canister with AFB label.

Provenance The tape was distributed by the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) Department of Public Education. AFB recorded several series of public service radio shows. The Callahan Museum purchased five "Manpower" tapes and three tapes from "A Quartet," another AFB radio series, through a collector. The tapes had been mailed parcel post in fibre-board containers to radio station WKOV in Wellston, OH, between 1960 and 1961. The "Manpower" flyer indicates that 39 interviews were recorded for the series; 38 interviews appear on the list of contents.
