| Sepia-toned photo is not mounted on a card. Photo shows two men, their backs to the camera, walking along a narrow avenue toward a partially visible building. The building appears to be one of the original "cottages" completed in 1884 for the Florida school. On the reverse is printed "State School for the Blind and Deaf, St. Augustine, Fla." At top, handwritten in pencil is "St. George Street" and a note that reads "Cousin Will Caldwell was Supt. of Deaf & Blind school [1890-93]. Aunt Laura Caldwell (my mother's aunt) lived there for several years." Paper has yellowed; photo is faded; piece of tape(?), approx. 1/4 in. square is attached to front center; small section of photo, showing the roof of the building, appears to have been torn off and reglued. |
