Admin/Biog History The Arkansas Institute for the Education of the Blind, located at Arkadelphia, was incorporated in 1859. It closed in 1863, during the Civil War, and reopened in 1867. The school relocated to Little Rock in September 1868. The name was changed to the Arkansas School for the Blind in 1877.

Custodial History Items belonged to Otis Patten, first superintendent of the Arkansas School for the Blind, and were acquired by a relative of Patten, who donated them to the APH Museum.

Abstract Two biennial reports of the Arkansas School for the Blind documenting the school's management, building, and student activities. Titles of the reports: Biennial Report of the Board of Trustees and Superintendent of the Arkansas Institute for the Education of the Blind, to the Governor of the State of Arkansas, for the two years ending September 30th, 1876; and Eleventh Biennial Report of the Board of Trustees and Superintendent of the Arkansas School for the Blind to His Excellency, Thomas J. Churchill, Governor of the State of Arkansas, for the two years commencing October 1st, 1880, and ending September 30th, 1882.
Each lists the trustees, school staff, and students by name and includes a report of financial receipts and disbursements.
