1866 Arkansas 1866 Message of the Governor Arkansas School for the Blind On title page: Message of the Governor to the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, at the session of 1866. The "Message" describes conditions in Arkansas following the Civil War and the recommendations of Governor Isaac Murphy to meet the needs of the state. Included is an appeal to the General Assembly to find a permanent location and support for the Arkansas Institute for the Education of the Blind, which had been closed in 1863 due to the war and its property sold. The school reopened in early 1867. Some pages are loose. 1996.793

Due to the Civil War, the school was temporarily closed and its property sold in 1863. It reopened in early 1867. 1996.794
1868 Arkansas 1868 4th Arkansas School for the Blind On title page: Fourth Report of the Arkansas Institute for the Education of the Blind, made to the General Assembly, November, 1868. Superintendent's report covers the period from April through October 1868. Due to the Civil War, the school was temporarily closed and its property sold in 1863. It reopened in early 1867. In the superintendent's report, Otis Patten describes the situation of the school at its closing and the first year of its reopening. 1996.795
