The California Institution for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb, and the Blind was established in 1860 and was first located in San Francisco. It moved into new buildings in 1869, in an area north of Oakland that would later become Berkeley. The school's name was changed to the California Institution for the Deaf and Blind in 1906. In 1914, it became the California School for the Deaf and Blind. The California School for the Blind became a separate school through legislation passed in 1921. It relocated to Fremont, CA in 1980.

| Abstract |
Reports document the school's management, building, and student activities. They list the trustees, school staff, and students by name and include a financial report of receipts and disbursements.The 5th and 14th reports, for fiscal years ending 1864 and 1880, are for an annual period; the remainder are biennial reports. Titles vary. The 1922/1924 report is the first biennial report for the California School for the Blind, after it becomes independent from the California School for the Deaf.
