Admin/Biog History The Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind is located in Colorado Springs. It was founded in 1874 as the Colorado Institute for the Education of Mutes. Blind students were first admitted in 1877, and the name changed to the Colorado Institute for Mute and Blind. A separate Blind Department was established in 1883.

Custodial History Reports were at the Kentucky School for the Blind until being transferred to the APH Museum in 1996.

Abstract Printed reports of the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind documenting the school's management, building, and student activities. Reports were printed biennially and list the school's officers, staff, and students, and the school's financial receipts and disbursements. Black-and-white photo illus. appear in reports for 1898/1900 and later.
Included in this collection is a booklet, "A Brief Historical Sketch and Hand Book of the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind, from its inception to March 1st, 1893."
There are also 4 small-sized yearbooks (measuring 6 in. in height and 4 or less inches wide) covering the years of 1920/21-1921/22 and 1924/25-1925/26. Each yearbook, issued at the beginning of the school year, includes the school schedule (holidays, special days, lectures, order of duties, and chapel services) and lists the trustees and staff, with the addresses of teachers.
