Dr. Tuck Tinsley III, President of APH says, "This project enables APH to expand services and to respond more efficiently to the braille needs of individuals, agencies, and employers."
One of about thirty braille production operations in state and federal correctional facilities across the country, KCI Braille Services will mark its third anniversary with a celebration at KCIW, November 5, from 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM.
A partnership among American Printing House for the Blind (APH), KCIW, and Kentucky Correctional Industries (KCI), the KCI Braille Services program at KCIW now employs thirteen women who have learned braille. Nine of them are already certified as literary braille transcribers by the National Library Service (NLS) of the Library of Congress; the other four are working toward certification. Eight of the nine literary certified transcribers are working on advanced certifications (Nemeth (mathematics), literary proofreading, and textbook formatting). Two transcribers specialize in tactile graphics.
