President of APH Receives Award from Florida State University
News Release: Louisville, Kentucky, January 27, 1998
Dr. Tuck Tinsley III, President of the American Printing House for the Blind (APH), was the recent recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award In Business and Industry, 1997. This award was conferred by the College of Education at Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida.
Cited by the College of Education was Dr. Tinsley's "record of leadership and service to his profession and his community as President of the American Printing House for the Blind and as former Principal, administrator, and teacher at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, St. Augustine, Florida."
Dr. Tinsley has served as President of the American Printing House for the Blind since 1989. Prior to 1989 he held several positions at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, including Principal, Assistant Principal, and mathematics teacher.
Dr. Tinsley received a Masters Degree in Special Education, Visual Disabilities, from Florida State University. In addition, he holds a doctorate in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Florida.
APH was founded in 1858 and is the nation's oldest and the world's largest nonprofit manufacturer of materials for visually impaired people. APH's mission is to promote the independence of blind and visually impaired persons by providing the special media, tools, and materials needed for education and life.
