Employee Spotlight Blog: Faid Mohamed

Dedicated and passionate employees are at the core of APH’s mission. Manufacturing Specialist, Faid Mohamed, brings a lot of excitement and energy to the Technology and Product Research (TPR) team with his new ideas and desire to learn.

Faid has lived in Louisville since he was twelve and has truly made the city his home. Currently enrolled at the University of Louisville’s Speed School to pursue a degree in Industrial Engineering, he had the opportunity to complete an internship at APH. Although Faid had not heard of APH previously, after doing some research on the company and mission, he was intrigued and wanted to see what working for APH was like.

During his internship, Faid was able to learn a great deal about product design, 3D printing, and what it requires to turn an idea into a reality. The internship allowed him to find his footing, gain workplace experience, network with others who have engineering backgrounds and interests, and learn more about the blind or low vision community.

At the end of his internship, a Manufacturing Specialist position opened on the TPR team. Calling for someone ready to take on the task of researching, designing, and manufacturing products, Faid applied and was delighted to get the job. He now works full time at APH while completing his degree. Working full-time while in school has been a juggling act, but Faid is grateful for the flexibility and understanding his department has had as he gets closer to graduation. “APH cares about their people!” Faid says, explaining that his experience proves just how much the company values its employees. Although he did not plan on working full-time when he started his internship, Faid is passionate about taking the skills he is learning in the classroom and using them to make a difference in the lives of real people.

One of his favorite parts about working at APH is the collaboration between departments. Having taken a class on how plastic products are made, Faid had the opportunity to work with a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine at APH. When working with the CNC machine, he was able to be a go-between between TPR and the product floor. Faid was able to give insight on the entire project, from the idea to the physical product. Getting the chance to work with other departments has shown him how connected APH really is. He’s been able to meet new people and see how much they bring to the mission of APH. “People love working here!” he says, explaining that the energy at APH is contagious.

Working in product design calls for a lot of creativity, innovation, and a desire to make ideas come to life. One of Faid’s favorite parts of the job is getting the chance to work with field testers. APH is a consumer-focused company that wants to make products that will be the most helpful to our customers. Faid finds it refreshing that the products he has worked on are all over the world. He is grateful for the tangible results his hard work produces, saying, “When you see your products going up on the website and people benefiting from them, it is such a fulfilling experience.”

Outside of work and school, Faid loves to skateboard. Whenever the weather is good, he takes his board around downtown Louisville, going everywhere from Waterfront Park to the skatepark. Being on his board allows him to feel more connected to the city. He is able to enjoy all of the scenery that he might otherwise miss if he was driving.

Faid’s craving to learn, create, and innovate brings a wonderful vitality to the team at APH.
