Get Ready for The Greatest Day of Play at Northeast LFPL!

Join us this Saturday at the Northeast Regional Library for The Greatest Day of Play! Come out and celebrate community, creativity, and inclusive fun for the whole family! As part of this exciting event, Connect the Dots, powered by the PNC Foundation, is bringing a lineup of accessible, hands-on outdoor activities that invite everyone to play, no matter their age.
Test your skills in a sensory obstacle course, where you’ll follow a winding lead line to a series of playful surprises that awaken your sense of touch, sound, and balance. Attendees can also challenge themselves by running with a guide wire, a method commonly used by athletes who are blind or low vision to navigate race courses with confidence. This activity offers a unique opportunity to experience the focus, coordination, and trust involved in accessible sports. Adapted techniques open the track to everyone! Finally, put your senses to the test and step into a new kind of volleyball match where you can’t see the other team−the net’s covered! Rely on sound, timing, and teamwork to send the ball flying.
Need a break from the sun? Relax under our tent and examine Sports Courts, a product designed by APH to help students who are blind or low vision explore and understand the layout of a wide range of sports courts and fields. Using tactile maps and magnetic 3-D pieces, students can safely explore and interact with scaled-down layouts — building a mental image of each space while learning about player positions, key features, and how the game is played. If that doesn’t strike your fancy, cool off beneath the colorful canopy of a twelve-foot parachute; perfect for catching some shade!
That’s just the beginning! Beyond the inclusive fun brought to you by Connect the Dots, families can enjoy a variety of activities during The Greatest Day of Play. A bicycle rodeo, yoga sessions, cricket games, and so much more will be taking place throughout the day. Whether you’re diving into an activity or simply soaking in the energy, there’s something for everyone to discover. So come dressed to get messy, bring your sense of adventure, and celebrate the power of play in bringing people together. We can’t wait to see you there!
