Hive Summer Cohort Returns with a Focus on CVI

Building on Last Year’s Success 

Are you ready to deepen your understanding of Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) while connecting with educators from across the nation? Last summer, the APH Hive launched its first-ever Summer Cohort, bringing together educators from across the country to delve into literacy instruction for students who are blind or low vision. The experience was a resounding success, with cohort members engaging in meaningful discussions, building connections, and gaining practical strategies to enhance their teaching. Here’s what one member had to say about the 2024 cohort: “I enjoyed the valuable resources shared throughout this Summer Cohort. So often, we teachers lack the time to delve into the content and range of research material presented during this course.” 

 

What Makes This Cohort Unique? 

Whether you’re looking to strengthen your teaching practices or broaden your professional network, this year’s cohort introduces an entirely new educational journey designed specifically for professionals supporting students with CVI. Fully asynchronous, the cohort allows participants to engage at their own pace throughout July, while still fostering a collaborative environment where they can exchange ideas—all while earning 10 ACVREP credit hours to support their professional growth. 

 

What Will We Study? 

Participants will complete a three-course trilogy on CVI, developed in partnership with experts from the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Through these courses, cohort members will gain a deeper understanding of CVI, exploring key research, assessment frameworks, and instructional methods. A key component of the coursework revolves around the “CVI Companion Guide,” a resource designed to help educators translate research into meaningful classroom practices. Educators in the cohort will gain a well-rounded understanding of CVI and acquire essential skills to better support students in real-world educational settings, and all completers of the cohort will receive their very own copy of APH’s “CVI Companion Guide.”
