My Sight: A Hands-On Curriculum Empowering Students

For TVIs, General Educators, Families, and Future Advocates 

Understanding how vision works—and how it sometimes doesn’t—is a powerful first step in building confidence, advocacy, and independence in students who are blind or low vision. That’s exactly the mission behind My Sight, an inclusive, tactile-based educational toolkit designed for K–12 learners with all levels of vision and for the teachers and families who support them. 

Whether you’re a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), a general education teacher, a student preparing for college, or a parent guiding your child through their journey with blindness or low vision, My Sight offers a hands-on framework to teach the anatomy of the eye, visual system functions, and the communication skills needed to advocate for visual needs.

What’s Included in the My Sight Kit?

Each My Sight kit is designed for easy use in the classroom or one-on-one instructional settings. It’s packed with interactive, accessible materials that accommodate students with varying levels of vision. Here’s what you’ll find: 

Teacher Guidebook

A binder-based guide organized with clear tabbed sections for quick reference. Lessons cover: 

• Eye anatomy 

• How light travels through the eye 

• Common eye conditions and their impacts 

• Key terminology 

• Self-advocacy strategies 

Tactile & Visual Learning Tools

• Tactile Diagrams: High-contrast, raised-line diagrams that highlight each part of the eye by texture. 

• Manipulatives Folder: Includes diagrams, eye-labeling worksheets, print/Braille vision statements, and a texture key for reference. 

• Tactile Labeling Worksheets: Features the outside, inside, and cross-sectional views of the eye. Hook-and-loop vocabulary labels (in print and Braille) allow students to build and identify eye structures interactively. 

• Role-Playing Cards: Print and Braille cards with real-life scenarios that encourage students to practice self-advocacy in a safe, supportive way. 

• Hook and Loop Board & Zippered Pouch: Keeps everything organized and accessible. 

My Sight Eye Puzzle

From Waterjet Works Puzzled Co., this standout feature includes: 

• A high-contrast PVC puzzle with numbered, textured, and color-coded pieces. 

• Print and Braille identifiers for matching each piece to a labeled tray. 

• A clear acrylic version for use with a lightbox (sold separately). 

• A texture key to support identification and understanding.
