Monarch Student Pilot Program

A young student in a black and grey hoodie has two hands on a Monarch device sitting on a wooden table. An adult woman is guiding his right hand across the tactile surface. Her other hand rests on the top left corner of the Monarch.

As we seek to create a world where everyone is welcome, APH is introducing the Monarch Student Pilot Project (MSPP), granting select students across the U.S. and its territories access to the Monarch. This initiative will enable us to observe the educational impacts on student outcomes, helping us enhance the Monarch’s potential to empower students who are blind or low vision to lead their own education journeys.

At the start of the 2024-25 school year, APH accepted over 100 students from 48 states and territories to participate in the Monarch Student Pilot Program. Beginning in September 2024, this initiative aims to explore how the Monarch can enhance inclusive education. Throughout the program, teachers will provide feedback a few times a year on their students’ experiences with the Monarch, classroom engagement, and their own perspectives—whether it’s how the device influences lesson preparation or helps them adapt to unexpected changes in the school day.

We hope to expand this program in the coming years.
