The Monarch Masking Frame helps build foundational navigation and spatial skills to prepare students for exploring tactile graphics on a dynamic tactile display.
The Monarch Masking Frame is a tactile learning tool that helps introduce students to critical navigation skills required for exploring tactile graphics on dynamic tactile displays, like panning and mental mapping. Sized to perfectly match the tactile display of the Monarch, the frame also pairs with standard 11.5” x 11” traditional embossed tactile graphics to introduce the experience of exploring large graphics through a small movable window.
By limiting exploration to a framed section, the Masking Frame encourages students to “pan” across the graphic. Educators can guide students in comparing framed sections to the full image, helping reinforce the concept of part-to-whole relationships. The Masking Frame is also designed with high-contrast colors to support learners with CVI or low vision.
To use, place the frame over an embossed graphic and explore only the portion within the cutout. Then reposition the frame as needed to uncover new sections, just like navigating a digital tactile screen.
