Product Description

This student reader aligns with Step 3 in the Wilson Reading System. Students gain accuracy and fluency by practicing their emerging decoding skills with highly controlled text found in the WRS Student Readers. The wordlists, sentences, and stories in the Student Readers are on average 98% decodable, that is, the text is limited to phonetically controlled words and high frequency words that have been directly taught. The selected words have been carefully considered to include core and academic vocabulary words.

The Wilson Reading System (WRS) is a structured literacy program designed to help struggling readers, particularly those with dyslexia, develop foundational reading and spelling skills by teaching the structure of the English language through a multisensory approach, focusing on decoding, encoding, and morphology, to improve their fluency and comprehension abilities across all reading levels, from second grade through adulthood; essentially aiming to equip students with the tools to decode and spell words accurately and efficiently.

As the only commercially available remedial reading program adapted for students with low vision or blindness, this is an important tool for TVIs and reading specialists.

    • Wilson Reading System (WRS) is the flagship program of Wilson Language Training® and the foundation of all other Wilson® programs. The Tier 3 Structured Literacy program is based on phonological-coding research and Orton-Gillingham principles.
    • WRS supports college- and career-readiness standards by providing students who have a language-based learning disability with the foundational and language skills that are necessary to access grade-level text. This comprehensive program can follow students from grade to grade, as needed.
