Product Description

Grid and Go offers a versatile collection of grids to support teaching and learning. Available in different configurations, sizes, colors, and thicknesses, these grids support a wide variety of teaching goals including orientation and mobility, spatial understanding, sensory efficiency, math and science, literacy, and even recreational games. Grid and Go provides readymade grids that can be used in combination with common felt boards available from APH including the Picture Maker storage board, All-in-One Board, and Trifold Board, or with any other hook-receptive surfaces available in the classroom.

The Grid and Go Activity Booklet, available under Manuals & Downloads below, presents ideas for numerous interactive activities and games that are possible with the use of the various grid types provided in the kit and address both Core Curriculum and Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) concepts and skills.

WARNING: Choking Hazard—Small Parts. Not intended for children ages 5 and under without adult supervision.

Note: Some photos demonstrate how Grid and Go can be used in combination with other APH materials and commercially available items. Not all items pictured are contained in this kit.

    • The yellow and red 3 x 3, 5 x 5, 10 x 10 grids and individual frames:

      • accommodate a plethora of uses (e.g., O&M mapping, recreational games, math graphs and tables, recreation/game applications);
      • and provide visual contrast to the black felt board and surrounding applied hook-backed shapes/pieces.
    • The Grid and Go grids are provided in the following configurations, colors, and thicknesses:

  • Some of the specific advantages of Grid and Go as described by field evaluators included the following:

    • “I liked them better for game boards, arrays, coding activities, bar graphs, and pictographs.”
    • “The grids allowed for a more consistent spatial setup for trying to demonstrate alignment of numbers and letters to each other.”
    • The grids keep lines parallel better than using strips when making intersections, squares, etc.
    • “It is easy to use; it provides a clear boundary when completing the activity and it is readymade, not something the teacher has to make on the go.”
    • “Pre-made grid allows for time to be saved creating one. With the differences in height of the different foams, it can be easier to represent concepts for a blind student than it would be with using something like tape.”

Some specific examples of how the students utilized and enjoyed the grids include the following:

    • “He enjoyed creating his own five and ten frames using the 5 x 5 grid and bar graphs using the 10 x 10 grid. He used Feel ‘n Peel number stickers to make a single letter label for the bottom of the columns in the bar graph.”
    • “She liked the searching games we could set up practicing tracking and matching.”
“The student enjoyed the ‘Complete a Pattern’ activity, where we began with a bigger grid and then advanced to smaller grids for more challenge.”
    • “She loved being able to set up the grids herself. She struggles creating grids and tactile images so she enjoyed being independent and helping me set the system up for her to use. She also loved using it for different subjects/concepts.””
    • “Consistency with the grid size for lining up manipulatives were helpful for the student to estimate location of number stickers added to the product.”
